Little voice in your head?
Have you been an over thinker? Because I don’t know for you, but I've personally have been overthinking since my birth day. Seriously, I always have this instinct to overthink or overdevelop or worry, and it’s pretty tiring on a day to day basis. And, I think you might have that too. This is why, in this article, we’ll see how you can stop giving a fuck.
This little voice in your head might make you overthink things, see things not as they are or they might push you to jealousy and hate and ridiculousness and anxiety.
Some people’s inner voices tell them they’re no good and that they should give up their goals, other people inner voices tell them that they’re great even tho they aren’t, other people inner voices overthink about this and that.
And, some other people inner voice’s are screaming intrusive thoughts at us. If you’ve got negative thoughts (such as « I’m not good enough », « I’m a loser », « I’m a bitch »), simply let them go. If you’ve got intrusive thoughts, let them go despite the anxiety it might spike. ANY reaction to a negative or intrusive thought, reinforces it. So avoid speaking to it altogether. Like a bully trying to get your attention, simply don’t give it any attention whatsoever. It’s easier in the first place.
Work on yourself and you’ll be good
This is a general rule of thumb: « Work on yourself and you’ll be good ». Improving yourself is super important to calm down overthinking and to stop giving a fuck, because it’ll not only enable you to 1) live in the present, to 2) be focused on real goals and not overthinking in your mind and 3) by becoming better, you start gaining wisdom and you slowly but surely shift your identity, change your vision of the world, and you start to stop overthinking.
Now sure, you have to make a conscious effort to not overthinking, but if you pair it with self-improvement it’s generally going to be easier. Habits such as meditation can help you live more and more in the present which will, in term, be of huge benefits when it’ll come to stop overthinking and to not give a fuck.
So, live in the present and meditate. Take deep breaths. Stay healthy. Workout, and make yourself proud.
The stoic philosophy
One thing we can learn from the stoics is to stop giving a fuck about what is not important. One of the best stoics teaching is to really put effort and attention on the things you CAN control, and stop giving any attention whatsoever on the things that you CANNOT control. In this way, you’ll live a better life because you’ll avoid any unnecessary waste of energy on things you cannot control.
Also, authenticity is key in stoping overthinking. Do not try to act in a certain way to please others. Now sure, identity change and becoming someone of higher value requires of you to have mannerisms to function better, such as walking correctly, keeping yourself straight with your chest out (in other words, working on your body language), speaking in a certain manner to be fluid, etc. But, don’t TRY to force yourself to do things in certain ways to « look more masculine/feminine/cool/attractive », just BE masculine/feminine/cool/attractive.
So remember to work only on what you can control and to be authentic. You can’t control most things in the universe, as you’re forced to obey to the universe rules, such as « you’ll die one day and you’re not immortal » or « if you try to jump on earth you’ll fall back down » or « you can’t just snap fingers and create money ».
So, since you can’t control a LOT of things in life, such as universal laws, how your neighbors brushes his teeth or how the doctor eats his food, you can at least try to control your own life and your own individual choices, and in this manner, you can even try to INFLUENCE others. In other words, the importance is not your unconscious reactions to things, it’s your CONSCIOUS reaction, that you control, and that can, through time, change your unconscious reaction, I believe.
Stressful environments plays a role too
We live in a stressful environment. We need to work, educate our children, provide for our partner and our family, work on ourselves, workout regularly, have vacations, read, go to any type of « appointments » (doctor, dentist, etc) and we also have to learn about the world and understand it better whilst having to know the political situation of our country and whilst cooking food for your partner, your children, yourself, whilst having to respect timings and schedules and climate change and wars and all that stuff.
This stressful environment can prove to be destructive if you’re someone who already has a hard time with overthinking. So, try to take a break from time to time. Read an interesting book, go for walks alone, with your loved ones or with your animals, go and meet people, go to bars and cafés with your friends, sleep well and rest well. Stay in nature or in the sun and just bath in its light.
Use relaxation techniques. Meditate regularly and try to breathe deeply throughought the day.
Actionable Step: breathe deeply for the next minute or so. Your belly should expand and become quite big.
Conclusion
To finish, remember to stop giving a fuck about most things. I’m not saying to be ignorant, just why caring about useless things that are often just in your mind? Why bothering your life with intrusive or negative thoughts? Simply learn how to deal with these problems, learn about them, read books about them, and try to stop reacting so much.
Care about what truly is important, and do not care about what is non-important. You have « brain space » or « brain storage » or even « brain points » that you use throughought the day. Don’t saturate the brain hardware or lose all your points. Keep working on the important things, improve yourself, still understand the world you live in but don’t spend your days watching information and overthinking about the misery of the world.
But the most important world of all: live in the present. Be strong. Stay strong.
