Music And Self-Improvement
Music is probably one of the main and many pleasures of your life. It gives both men and women this feeling of confidence, of strongness of decision, or just of joy and nostalgia. It can make people remember memories, it can make people get "in the zone" before a workout, and therefore most people on self-improvement listen to music.
In this article, we'll see my approach to using music during self-improvement. Let's begin.
The Upsides Of Listening To Music
An article published by the National Institutes Of Health proclaims that "music activities" [...] "is a driving force for developing music-based therapies services in the health care sector." Moreover, music promotes "physical and psychological health".
Therefore, we can clearly see that music has been scientifically proven to improve our physical and psychological health, or in other words, our physical health and our mental health. It enables us to improve our mood and get ready for a workout. It has even been proven in many studies to increase performance.
However, these upsides: improved physical health and performance, improved mental health and mental performance, might not be able to fully compensate for the downsides. In fact, most studies haven't really used the "basic" music people listen to: degenerate rap music about a rapper using girls for sexual pleasure and smoking pot every single day. That's why we'll check quickly the downsides of listening to music.
The Downsides Of Listening To Music
This part of the article will push a lot of people to quit the page since it is a bit brutal, but since my job is to share self-improvement and spiritual growth, I do not care about whether this happens or not. Let's get real, if you're listening to rap music, you're still a degenerate. In our Western societies, rap music often rhyme with sexual degeneracy (casual sex for example) and often rhymes with crime (drugs, fights, violence, weapons).
Therefore, most men listen to rappers saying that they're having sex with girls, a lot of girls, perhaps their future girl, and they idolize these rappers. Think about how fucked up that is: men listen to other men telling them that they will fuck their future girl. And THEY IDEOLIZE THAT. How much beta male, how much disgusting, wimp, weak boy can we get from that?! The worst is, whilst this is happening, you're also unconsciously auto-suggesting the belief of the rap music into your mind. So man up and quit that crap.
And for women, who are into listening to rap. You are filling your brain with negative masculine thoughts of violence and crime whilst also idolizing oftentimes or even very often times an ugly, creep-looking raper that if he had no fame or money you wouldn't even look at twice in the street.
So, if you're a man or a woman, quit that shit. Not only does it make you idolize degenerate, disgusting people who are basically telling you that they can fuck lots of girls and make lots of money, but you're also unconsciously absorbing all those beliefs until you end up being a wimpy, weak, degenerate boy or girl idolizing a stupid rapper.
Let's be real for a moment. Do you want to be a weak, wimpy, degenerate man or woman? If yes, quit that article right now. If you want to change your life, achieve your goals, and become a man or woman of character, continue. This way, I can already filter out the undesired readers who are not really into self-improvement.
But even outside of rap music, a lot of people listen to other types of music, and in this case, music can be very good for your physical and mental health. However, I recommend cutting off music altogether or using more "traditional" music like in the old, primitive days. For example, before a workout, you can listen to a primitive war song, so you get some of this "warrior" feeling to smash your workout. However, personally, I recommend listening to no music at all.
The thing is, when you use music to get pumped up and ready for the workout for example, or ready to go and speak to these people or to approach these girls to ask them their number, what you're doing is you're coping with your emotions. However, if your goal is to become a man or woman of character, masculine or feminine, you need to deal with your emotions yourself.
Spiritually speaking, I think music should not be abused. I rarely listen to music. The problem I had personally was that I used music to alleviate negative feelings and beliefs and to motivate me for action. However, if you build a music dependency, you end up being weak.
As David Goggins says so poetically: "We like to put the headphones on, like before the big game and listen to the music, what the fuck do you do when the headphones come off bro, it's you and your own mind." So, even tho music can be used for motivation from time to time, as Goggins says on Instagram, it's not supposed to be your primary fuel. Your primary fuel should be your internal savage, the voice in your mind that tells you to fight like a lion. This is what you need to listen to.
We need to learn to motivate ourselves. We need to hold a strong self-image so we can push ourselves to our limits. Because yes, identity and self-image is indeed playing a role in all of this. If you think you're a strong man or woman, ready to fight the world, you'll be more likely to go out there and achieve rather than if you believed you're a weak, undisciplined wimpy man or woman.
It's about holding yourself to a higher standard. Once you are at this high standard, you start to do what you think you couldn't do. You take cold showers every day for a year. You go to the gym six times a week. You eat a clean and balanced diet for the rest of your life. The motivation needs to come from within, not from outside.
What if your gym plays bad music?
Your gym might very likely be playing bad music, and here you have a lot of options. You can buy sound-blocking headphones or earbuds, buy earplugs, construction helmets (they block the majority of the music I believe), or you can simply do nothing and just focus on your workout without giving much attention to music. When I personally go to the gym, I do not use any music directly but if there is music on the TV I simply use that as my fuel or I do not listen to it. I just do my workout.
How to quit music progressively...
If, after this article, you want to quit listening to music progressively, I recommend stopping for days. If you fall back into it, restart. Uninstall and delete your accounts on Deezer, Spotify, or any other music platforms.
If you can, quit it once and for all by deleting all contacts with music. If you can't manage to do so, quit it little by little. Listen to it 10 minutes less. Then 1/2 day in the week. For example, you listen to it on Monday but not on Tuesday and you re-listen to it on Wednesday. Then, progressively overload until you don't listen to it at all anymore
Conclusion
To conclude, music is great for motivation and inspiration, but if it is abused, it can affect your "spiritual health". It disables you to trust your own motivation, to lean into this deeper motivating voice that we all have if we search enough.
Degenerate music, such as rap, contributes to becoming a degenerative individual, practicing degenerate sexual behavior, and falling into materialism. Rap weakens the soul and the individual, making us spiritually disabled and mentally tired. Let's cut off from this. Let's not idolize disgusting rappers or degenerate singers. Let's start to actually trust ourselves instead of dreaming about others. It's fucking ridiculous.
Finally, you should always have balance in life. This is why music from time to time isn't bad. Even, music daily isn't bad. Just listen to the good types of music, such as primitive, instinctive old motivational music of primitive times. You can do that every day during or before your workout for example. Music actually has many health benefits, and if used properly, you can unlock these benefits and lead a richer life. But as for me, I'll stay with no music for now, or very rarely.
As always, thank you so much for reading this article. I'll see you next time.
