The world is a fucked up place. Sure, it has some beautiful sights such as the smile of your woman or your children, the sunshine at the beginning of a workday or views of the oceans and seas of the world...
But most of the world is fucked up. Really. Truly. I believe it. Wether you're living in a developed country on it, and wether you're aware of the information around you, humans have been ravaging each others lives for eternity. We've been fighting, stealing, disrespecting, hurting, attacking, defending against each other as a mean to survive and assess dominance to get our own way.
And as ugly as it is, this is human nature. And, it's not because we're more civilized than in the old times (we're not killing each other with swords because you ate my mashed potatoes at the castle's banquet), it's not because we have more "moral values" in our modern society, that we are angels, and that OTHER PEOPLE are angels.
Because let's assume for a second that you are indeed an angel. You wouldn't and you don't want to hurt anyone. Good for you man. But, the world is fucked up, and people are going to try to hurt you, your wife, your children, your financial status, anything. People are going to try to steal from you and hurt you and insult you and will indeed disrespect you. That's part of life's experience.
That's why, to make in sort that you're protected and that the people you love are protected at the maximum of your capacity, you need to know how to physically fight. Because yes, mental fights are a thing and you see this all over the medias such as television or the internet through political debates for example.
And, mental "martial arts" is also an important thing. Learning how to argue, to defend yourself, to speak your ideas clearly and to negotiate is important. But what is also very important, and what is the subject of this article, is fighting physically, with your hands (and legs, if needed).
So, let's get started, shall we?
Which martial arts to choose?
There are many martial arts out there, and, since I believe you're just like me at the date of writing this article, you are still hesitating on which one to choose (just as I am). I'm hesitating, and trying out "essays" at different clubs of my region to find out which martial art is the best.
And, here is my conclusion: none. The best martial art for you is the one that meet your goals. If your goal is to have fun and wrestle, go with wrestling. If your goal is to learn how to box for competition, go with kickboxing or traditional, English boxing. If your goal is to learn how to fight in real life, go with kickboxing, full contact, Muay Thai or MMA.
Each martial art has its ups and downs. If you do wrestling or judo for example, it's going to be quite useful in real life to "make someone fall" or to "immobilize" him, but in reality it might not be applicable to every situation and every fight.
If you really want to learn how to fight in the meaning of defending yourself, I think the best one(s) to go toward is kickboxing, traditional boxing, full contact, MMA or Muay Thai.
Boxing is great but remember you can only use your hands, so it would be more "intelligent" to favor kickboxing as it uses both your legs and hands too.
This article is very short because I don't have much to say on top of what I already said. You just need to choose the right martial art that is in alignment of your goals.
